Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is known for its Freestyle Cruising approach, giving guests the freedom to vacation their way. With a diverse fleet that spans from groundbreaking new ships to mid-size favorites, NCL’s ships are divided into several classes, each offering unique features, entertainment options and onboard innovations.

Prima Plus Class

As the newest evolution in the NCL fleet, Prima Plus ships expand on the success of the original Prima Class with enhanced venues, more spacious accommodations and upgraded amenities. Norwegian Luna and Norwegian Aqua are the first ships in this expanded class, offering cutting-edge design and refined luxury.

Prima Class

Introduced with Norwegian Prima in 2022, this class focuses on elevated experiences and more personal space. Highlights include the Ocean Boulevard promenade, infinity pools, The Haven luxury enclave and elevated dining venues. These ships also feature smaller guest capacities compared to larger NCL ships, allowing for a more refined atmosphere.

Breakaway Plus Class

Breakaway Plus ships are some of the largest in the NCL fleet, offering high-energy experiences and expansive venues. Ships like Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss feature a go-kart track, virtual reality gaming lounges, Broadway-style shows, and a wide array of specialty dining. These ships are ideal for cruisers seeking variety and innovation.

Breakaway Class

The Breakaway Class introduced a modernized look and feel with attractions like The Waterfront, a promenade lined with bars and restaurants. Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway brought new flexibility and excitement to cruising with vibrant nightlife, comedy clubs and aquaparks.

Epic Class

The Epic Class includes a single ship, the Norwegian Epic, which introduced several firsts for the fleet, including studio staterooms for solo travelers and the revolutionary curved “wave” design in many cabins. Known for its large-scale entertainment, including Broadway-style shows and the unique Spiegel Tent venue, Norwegian Epic also offers a wide range of dining options, a sprawling Aqua Park, and The Haven, NCL’s luxury suite complex. The ship is a bridge between older Freestyle Cruising designs and the innovations seen in later classes.

Jewel Class

Jewel Class ships are mid-size vessels that strike a balance between amenities and intimacy. Ships such as Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem are beloved for their classic layouts, excellent specialty dining and relaxed atmosphere. These ships are great for destination-focused itineraries.

Pride Class

The Pride Class includes only the Pride of America, a U.S.-flagged ship that operates exclusively in Hawaii. Built with American décor and staffed in accordance with U.S. maritime regulations, it offers unique weeklong round-trip sailings from Honolulu with no international stops. The ship features Hawaiian-inspired entertainment, local cuisine, and immersive cultural programming, making it the only large cruise ship offering year-round inter-island cruising without the need for a passport.

Dawn Class

Featuring Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Star, this class offers a traditional cruise layout with modernized spaces. Guests enjoy a full range of dining options, entertainment and activities in a more approachable, comfortable setting.

Sun Class

The smallest ships in the fleet, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky are best for shorter getaways or more port-intensive itineraries. They offer a relaxed cruise experience while still featuring Freestyle Cruising hallmarks such as diverse dining and casual entertainment.

Leo Class

The Leo Class consists of a single ship, the Norwegian Spirit. This ship offers a more traditional cruising experience with smaller crowds and a more intimate atmosphere. After a $100 million revitalization, Norwegian Spirit now features modern staterooms, updated public spaces and adult-focused venues like the Mandara Spa and the adults-only Spice H2O retreat. It’s a great option for guests who prefer classic elegance and less crowded itineraries.
